I was not warned that dilation could be longer than normal. I have been displayed for 24 hours so far. Extreemly hard to see text. With glasses. Light hurts eyes. I have a very busy week planed and hope it goes away soon. My optometrist said since I had flashes of light it might b a retinal tear happening. She made an appointment with an opthalmologist specialist. He had someone put drops in then a while later he saw me. Did a lot of pressing on corners of my eyes while he shone lights in them. The pressing realy hurt. He had a guy take pics first. Heput drops twice and took mor pics. Very thorough I guess, but the strong light and pressing hurt a lot. Now I still can’t see good. It’s a long weekend and want to go to my family doctor but he won’t be back for 4 days. Hope it’s gone by then. Geez.

    Hi Elaine,

It sounds like you have vitreous traction or pulling on the retina which sometimes is a precursor to a retinal detachment or tear. The pressing helps your eye doctor see farther out to the edges of the retina where tears may start. It can be uncomfortable. As long as you are having the flashes you will need to be followed and dilated periodically. Hopefully they will settle down relatively fast. Once the vitreous detches the risk of retinal detachment goes down. Hang in there.
